Building a Gentek Aluminum Kitchen-Table Presentation

A strong siding presentation should not feel like a product dump.

The homeowner should not be asked to sort through a stack of samples, brochures and technical information without any structure.

A better Gentek aluminum kitchen-table presentation is simple, visual and repeatable. It starts with homeowner priorities, moves into physical product demonstration, compares the right options and ends with a recommendation and installed price.

At Suburban Wholesale & Supply, we encourage contractors to build a process their entire sales team can use consistently instead of relying on individual salespeople to improvise every appointment.

The Goal Is Not to Show Everything

More samples do not automatically create a better presentation.

The goal is to show the homeowner the few options that best match what they are trying to accomplish.

Sales Principle: A good presentation reduces confusion. It does not transfer the contractor's entire product catalog onto the homeowner.

Step 1: Start With Discovery

Do not begin with the samples.

Begin with the homeowner.

Ask questions such as:

  • What do you dislike about the current siding?
  • What do you want the house to look like when the project is finished?
  • Do you prefer smooth or textured siding?
  • Do you like classic solid colors or more color variation?
  • Are you specifically interested in metal siding?
  • How important is low maintenance?
  • Are soffit, fascia or gutters part of the project?
  • What concerns do you have about siding durability?

Those answers tell you which Gentek aluminum products actually belong on the table.

Step 2: Narrow the Product Choices

Gentek gives contractors several aluminum siding directions.

  • Deluxe Aluminum: smooth appearance with multiple profile choices.
  • Woodgrain Series 2000: traditional woodgrain texture in a Double 4-inch profile.
  • Cedarwood Aluminum: woodgrain texture, Double 5-inch profile and variegated colors.

Do not put all three on the table unless all three actually fit the homeowner's goals.

Step 3: Put the Product in Their Hands

Physical samples should be the centerpiece of the presentation.

Let the homeowner touch the siding.

Show:

  • Texture
  • Profile
  • Butt depth
  • Finish
  • Color

A homeowner will remember a physical product demonstration longer than a brochure paragraph.

Step 4: Explain the Aluminum Construction

Once the homeowner likes the appearance, explain what the product is made from.

Keep it simple.

"This is an aluminum siding system with a factory-applied exterior finish. The aluminum forms the panel itself, while the finish gives you the color and surface you are looking at."

The homeowner does not need a metallurgy lecture.

Step 5: Demonstrate the Profile

Do not assume homeowners understand D4, D5 or 8-inch clapboard.

Explain exposure in visual terms.

"A smaller exposure gives you more horizontal lines across the wall. A wider exposure gives you fewer, broader lines."

Then compare the actual samples.

Step 6: Turn the Sample Sideways

This should become standard practice.

Turn the panel sideways and show the homeowner the butt depth and profile shape.

This is especially useful for explaining the shadow lines created across the finished wall.

Demonstration Rule: If a homeowner can see a feature in five seconds, do not spend two minutes describing it.

Step 7: Compare Smooth vs. Woodgrain

Put a smooth Deluxe sample next to a Woodgrain Series 2000 or Cedarwood sample.

Ask:

  • Which surface do you prefer?
  • Which looks better with your home's architecture?
  • Do you want a cleaner look or more texture?

Let the homeowner make the visual choice.

Step 8: Compare Solid vs. Variegated Color

If Cedarwood is part of the presentation, explain that its variegated finish creates more tonal variation across the wall.

Compare that with the more consistent solid colors available in other Gentek aluminum lines.

Again, do not tell the homeowner which is better.

Ask which look they prefer.

Step 9: Take the Samples Outside

Color decisions should not end at the kitchen table.

Take the preferred samples outside and compare them with:

  • Brick
  • Stone
  • Roofing
  • Windows
  • Doors
  • Existing trim

Natural light can change how the color and texture appear.

Step 10: Bring Soffit, Fascia and Trim Into the Conversation

Do not sell the wall and ignore the rest of the exterior.

Discuss:

  • Soffit condition
  • Ventilation needs
  • Fascia color
  • Window and door trim
  • Custom brake work
  • Gutters and downspouts

A complete exterior presentation creates more value than a siding-only quote.

Step 11: Show Project Photos

Product samples show what the siding looks like up close.

Project photos show what it looks like on an entire home.

Build a photo library showing:

  • Deluxe Aluminum projects
  • Woodgrain Series 2000 projects
  • Cedarwood projects
  • Different profile exposures
  • Different color combinations
  • Soffit and fascia packages
  • Custom trim details

Step 12: Explain the Tradeoffs

A credible presentation includes limitations.

Aluminum can be damaged by sufficient physical impact. Colors and profiles vary by product. Warranty coverage has terms and exclusions.

Explain those realities honestly.

A salesperson who can explain why a product may not fit the homeowner becomes more believable when recommending it.

Step 13: Put the Warranty on the Table

Do not make warranty claims from memory.

Use Gentek's current written warranty and review the applicable coverage, finish provisions, transfer terms, exclusions and limitations.

If warranty is important enough to help close the sale, it is important enough to show the homeowner.

Step 14: Build Good-Better-Best Around Real Differences

Good-better-best should not simply be three prices.

Build packages around real differences in product or project scope.

Package Example
Good Appropriate Gentek aluminum siding with required accessories
Better Siding plus upgraded trim, soffit or fascia package
Best Complete exterior with siding, soffit, fascia, custom trim and gutters

Step 15: Present Price Last

By the time you present price, the homeowner should understand:

  • Which product you're recommending
  • Why you're recommending it
  • What the profile looks like
  • What the finish looks like
  • How the color fits the house
  • What the exterior package includes
  • What the warranty actually says

Now the price has context.

A 15-Minute Gentek Aluminum Kitchen-Table Presentation

  1. Minutes 1-3: Ask discovery questions.
  2. Minutes 4-5: Introduce the two or three most relevant products.
  3. Minutes 6-7: Compare texture and profile.
  4. Minutes 8-9: Compare colors and finish.
  5. Minutes 10-11: Discuss soffit, fascia and trim.
  6. Minute 12: Show project photos.
  7. Minute 13: Explain tradeoffs.
  8. Minute 14: Review warranty.
  9. Minute 15: Present the recommended package and price.

A Better 60-Second Opening

"Before I start showing you siding, I want to make sure I understand what you're trying to accomplish. Then I'll narrow this down to the Gentek aluminum options that actually fit your home. We'll look at the texture, profile and colors, take the samples outside, and then I'll show you how the soffit, fascia and trim can work with the siding. Once you understand the differences, we'll compare the installed options and decide which one makes the most sense."

Build a Repeatable Sales Kit

Every salesperson should have the same basic tools.

  • Deluxe Aluminum sample
  • Woodgrain Series 2000 sample
  • Cedarwood sample
  • Current color samples
  • Soffit sample
  • Fascia sample
  • Trim coil samples
  • Current product literature
  • Current warranties
  • Completed-project photos
  • Digital visualization access
  • Good-better-best comparison sheet

A consistent kit creates a more consistent presentation.

Practice the Presentation

Owning samples is not the same as knowing how to demonstrate them.

Salespeople should practice the complete presentation before using it with homeowners.

Practice:

  • The discovery questions
  • The product transitions
  • The profile demonstration
  • The texture comparison
  • The warranty explanation
  • The good-better-best presentation
  • The final recommendation

The Homeowner Should Be Able to Explain the Choice Back to You

This is a simple test of whether the presentation worked.

Ask the homeowner why they prefer the product they selected.

If they can say:

"We like this one because of the woodgrain texture, wider profile and how the color works with our brick."

Your presentation probably did its job.

The best sales presentation makes the homeowner more confident in the decision—not more dependent on the salesperson.
