  • Automatic resetting when the sash is closed
  • Limiting the initial opening to no more than four inches when re-engaged

Do not substitute a generic limiter, improvised screw or ordinary vent stop where the project requires a compliant WOCD.

WOCDs Do Not Replace Supervision

A properly selected WOCD can reduce fall risk, but no device should be treated as a substitute for adult supervision or broader window-safety practices.

Keep furniture and climbable objects away from windows used by young children. Homeowners should learn the release operation and periodically confirm that the device resets as designed.

Insect screens are not fall-prevention devices. Gentek specifically cautions that its screens are intended to allow air and light through while excluding insects—not to prevent a person or object from falling through an open window.

Slider Rollers and Track Performance

Gentek lists dual brass tandem rollers for its 1900 Series sliding windows. Rollers support the moving sash and help it travel along the track.

A slider that becomes difficult to move does not automatically need new rollers. Common contributors include:

  • Dirt, paint or construction debris in the track
  • A frame installed out of level or square
  • A damaged or incorrectly seated sash
  • Roller wear or adjustment problems
  • Obstructed drainage openings
  • Cold-weather changes in seals or materials
