However, Gentek's public product description does not provide an apples-to-apples numerical test result showing the size of that improvement. It would therefore be inappropriate to turn the statement into an unsupported percentage or to call either finish scratchproof.

A light surface transfer, a scuff in the top layer and a scratch exposing the underlying metal are not the same condition. Any damage should be evaluated before cleaning or repair products are applied.

Handling and Installation Matter to the Finished Wall

Even a durable factory finish can be damaged by careless storage or installation. Good workmanship protects the appearance homeowners selected in the showroom.

• Keep panels dry, supported and protected from jobsite traffic.

Can These Finishes Be Repainted?

Gentek's current SteelTek webpage displays a 35-year color and chalk statement. However, the general steel siding warranty currently linked by Gentek states 15 years for qualifying chalking and color change. Because those public materials do not match, buyers should not rely on the webpage summary alone.

Ask for the complete warranty certificate that will apply to the exact SteelTek product being quoted. The written certificate, purchase date, product identification and exclusions matter more than an isolated marketing statement.

Which Finish Should You Choose?

SteelTek Supreme deserves consideration when the homeowner prefers a low-gloss roughsawn appearance and places particular value on Gentek's Kynar PVDF finish, its stated scuff-resistance advantage and the Supreme written warranty.

SteelTek may appeal when its heat-fused PVC woodgrain, available colors and overall project proposal better support the home's design and budget. Its finish should be evaluated on its own merits—not dismissed simply because it uses a different coating technology.

The responsible decision comes from comparing full-size samples, written specifications, installed cost and the warranty certificate applicable to the order. A coating name by itself does not reveal whether the installer handled the panels correctly or whether the finished color works with the house.
