Common Heat Sources Around a Home

Heat damage is often associated with an obvious flame, but damaging temperatures can originate from several sources.

• Hot exhaust from equipment or improperly located vents

Never Guess at Grill Clearance

Signs That Suggest Concentrated Reflection

Visual evidence alone may not prove the cause, but several observations can justify a professional investigation.

• Distortion appears in a limited patch rather than across the entire wall.
• The affected area follows an unusual curved, diagonal or concentrated shape.
• The condition appears on a wall facing nearby windows.
• A bright reflection can be observed moving across the area during part of the day.
• The siding looks softened, rippled or melted rather than uniformly weathered.
• The condition returns after panels are replaced without correcting the external source.

Record the wall at several times of day. Photographs showing the reflection and its source are more useful than photographs of the damaged siding alone.

Heat Distortion Is Not the Same as Installation Buckling

Several conditions can produce an uneven-looking wall. The repair strategy depends on the actual cause.

What to Do If You See a Bright Reflection

1. Document the time and location. The reflection may appear only during a particular season or part of the day.
2. Photograph the light path. Capture the affected siding and suspected reflective surface in context.

No maintenance practice guarantees a resale increase. Visible melted or distorted siding can raise understandable questions about fire exposure, window reflection and concealed wall damage.

When heat damage is professionally corrected, retain:

Evidence that the cause was corrected is more persuasive than replacing the siding and leaving the source unexplained.
