Steel Siding Around Utility Meters, Lights, Vents and Exterior Fixtures
Every meter, light, outlet, faucet and vent interrupts the siding field. These penetrations need structural support, compatible flashing and enough clearance for inspection, maintenance and future replacement.
The Short Answer
Attach exterior fixtures to framing, structural sheathing or another approved support—not to the face of SteelTek Supreme alone.
Flash the fixture or mounting block to the wall’s drainage plane before installing the surrounding siding. Then use compatible trim to receive and finish the cut panel edges.
Surface caulk can serve as part of a maintained exterior joint, but it should not be the only measure preventing water from entering the wall.

Caulk Is Not a Drainage Plane
