Compare the delivered material with the approved order, product samples and elevation plan. Do not assume that cartons carrying a familiar Gentek name contain the exact shake or scallop profile selected for the home.

Fairhaven Sound Is a Specific Product Family

Gentek identifies Fairhaven Sound Single Select as polypropylene shake and scallop siding. The collection includes multiple profiles with different exposures, dimensions, textures and package quantities.

Confirm the exact written description rather than accepting a shortened term such as “cedar shake,” “polymer shingle” or “Gentek accent.”

A correct manufacturer and color paired with the wrong profile is still an incorrect delivery.

The Delivery Verification Checklist

• Manufacturer: Verify that the cartons identify Gentek or the applicable manufacturer information.
• Product line: Confirm Fairhaven Sound Single Select.
• Profile: Match the exact shake or scallop description to the approved order.
• Color: Compare the printed color name and product code with the signed selection.
• Quantity: Count cartons, accessories and separately packaged components.
• Packaging condition: Document crushed, torn, wet or visibly distorted cartons.
• Accessory compatibility: Confirm that receiving channels, corners and trim are intended for the selected panel.
• Flashing and wall materials: Verify that required water-management materials are included in the project scope.
• Current instructions: Make sure the crew has Gentek documentation for the exact profile.

Photograph Every Label

Carton labels may be discarded during installation. Photograph representative labels before the material is distributed around the jobsite.

The photographs should clearly capture:

• Product name
• Profile description
• Color name
• Product or item code
• Manufacturing or identifying information printed on the label
• Quantity or package coverage
• Certification markings where applicable

Store the images with the contract and supplier invoice. They can help identify replacement material years after the original cartons are gone.

Compare the Product to the Approved Physical Sample

Color names alone are not enough. Open a representative carton only after confirming the label, then compare an undamaged panel with the approved sample outdoors.

Review:

• Relationship to the proposed trim
• Appearance in both sun and shade

Different lighting can make coordinated products appear different. The question is whether the delivered material matches the approved product identification and produces the intended exterior combination.

Inspect Panel Locks, Tabs and Edges

Fairhaven Sound relies on panel features that support connection, positioning and seam concealment. Gentek highlights its integrated locking system, self-concealing side tabs and self-aligning nail slots.

Inspect representative panels for:

• Cracked or broken locking features
• Damaged side tabs
• Distorted fastening slots
• Punctures or deep scratches
• Warped or twisted panel bodies
• Crushed corners and edges
• Contamination that does not clean according to Gentek’s care instructions

A damaged lock should not be treated as a harmless hidden defect. It participates in the connection between panels.

Do Not Install Questionable Material to “See How It Looks”

Cutting or fastening a questionable panel can make responsibility harder to establish. Keep it separate, retain its packaging and notify the supplier or contractor before it becomes part of the wall.

Record:

1. The carton and label
2. The visible condition
3. The number of affected pieces
4. The delivery date
5. Where the material was stored
6. Who was notified and when
7. The written disposition or replacement decision

Verify Accessories Before Panel Installation

PEPA/VSI installation guidance identifies starter strips, corners, J-channels, utility trim and flashing as components that may need to be installed before the siding panels.

If an accessory is missing or incompatible, the crew should not redesign the edge detail from leftover material simply to maintain production.

Check the components for:

• Correct receiving depth
• Approved use with the Fairhaven Sound profile
• Correct corner and transition type
• Approved color
• Enough length to complete connected elevations
• Damage from bending or crushing

Jobsite Storage Is Part of Quality Control

Store Fairhaven Sound according to Gentek’s current handling and storage instructions. In the absence of verified product-specific direction, do not invent stacking or temperature limits.

A responsible storage plan should protect the cartons from:

• Impact from vehicles, equipment and falling materials
• Uneven support that can distort the panels
• Standing water and uncontrolled moisture
• Wind that can scatter opened material
• Concentrated heat and open flame
• Traffic by other trades
• Roof runoff and mud
• Unauthorized cutting or removal

Ask the supplier or Gentek for clarification when the manufacturer’s storage requirements are not available at the jobsite.

Protect Polypropylene from Significant Heat

Gentek’s Fairhaven Sound safety information states that rigid polypropylene siding can melt or burn when exposed to significant heat or flame.

Do not store cartons beside:

• Grills, smokers or fire pits
• Construction heaters
• Open burning or welding activity
• Hot exhaust
• Equipment producing concentrated heat
• Other locations prohibited by Gentek or fire regulations

Separate Materials by Elevation

Projects combining several siding colors or profiles benefit from an elevation-based material plan. Clearly identify which cartons belong on the front gable, dormers, side walls or other accent areas.

This reduces the risk of:

• Installing the wrong profile on a prominent gable
• Using repair stock to finish the initial installation
• Mixing similar color names
• Opening more cartons than necessary
• Running short on a connected elevation

Labels should remain with their material until the profile and color have been verified in place.

Review the First Installed Section

Once the delivery is verified, install and review an early representative section before covering the entire home.

Maintain a Material-Control Log

Larger projects benefit from a simple written log showing material received, opened, damaged, returned and reserved.

The log should answer:

• How many cartons arrived?
• How many were visibly damaged?
• Which replacement materials were requested?
• Which cartons were assigned to each elevation?
• How much material remains unopened?
• Which usable panels will remain as repair stock?
• Who authorized returns or additional orders?

Preserve Repair Material Deliberately

At project completion, set aside usable full panels as agreed in the contract. Keep them labeled and store them according to Gentek’s instructions.

Do not leave the homeowner with only small cutoffs lacking intact locking features. Those scraps may demonstrate color and texture but may not be usable for a future panel replacement.

Photograph the retained material and record its storage location with the home-maintenance documents.

Delivery Records and Resale

Delivery records do not guarantee a resale premium. They can help future owners identify what was installed and locate compatible material for maintenance.

Keep the final order, invoice, label photographs, installation records, warranty and care instructions together. That file is more useful than a handwritten note saying only “Gentek gray shakes.”
